Monarch High School already has teams competing in the postseason, while others honored their seniors.
The boys soccer team advanced to the Regional Semifinals following a 2-0 win over Coral Springs High School on Thursday. The Knights were seeded fifth and won eight games in the regular season before getting a pair of goals from Luca Lopez in their first playoff game. Gabe Lana added an assist while Odair Passu made six saves in net for the shutout.
The Knights are set to play Fort Lauderdale High School in the Regional Semifinals on Tuesday, January 28, after they had a bye In the opening round. They went 14-4-1 but had their one tie against Monarch. Deerfield Beach will play Boyd H. Anderson High School in the other semifinal game with the winners set to play in the final.
The girls soccer team was seeded third and beat Boyd H. Anderson High School 8-0 for their ninth win of the season. They will also play Fort Lauderdale High School in the District Semifinals after they were seeded second and had a bye in the first round. The Flying L’s had only five wins this year, while Piper High School will be playing Coral Springs High School in the top half of the bracket.
The boys basketball team held their senior night before their game against Coconut Creek High School on Thursday. The Knights honored Benjamin Boutin, Floyd Hepburn, Brandon Lynn, Zachary Mason, Tristan Philogene, Kayden Williams, and Sidney Lewinsky before winning 58-54 to improve to 7-9 this year. Williams led the team with 12 points while Lewinsky added 11, and Benjamin Boutin and Caleb Jean Baptise had nine.
They will play their final regular season game on Monday, January 27, against Marjory Stoneman Douglas at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles also have seven wins this year and won by 13 in their only matchup last year.
The girls basketball team recognized Alexiya Gray, Frida de La Fuente, Layla Levy, Sasha Rodriguez, Jaylyn Browne, and Jael Dixon but lost 62-17. They will also play Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Monday, January 27, at 6 pm. as the Eagles had their four-game winning streak end in their last game against Northeast High School. Still, they are 10-8 and won by 41 in last year’s matchup.
The wrestling team honored their seniors Devon Rhodes, Ethan Pierce, Gabriel Franco, and Miguerson Renelus. They also had Rosie Klein finish second in the Lady Indian IBT in Imokalee. Kayla Puma went 2-5, while Roberta Andrade and Noemi Escobar Ayala each had a win.
