A man wanted in connection with an alleged domestic assault involving a firearm was arrested after unknowingly turning himself in at the police department.
According to the arrest report, Mihail Rabinkov, 45, of Margate, walked into the Margate Police Department on January 24 to inquire about the existence of a restraining order his wife may have asked for stemming from an incident in November. Instead, he was arrested when officers discovered a warrant was put out for his arrest in response to that same incident.
Records show that on November 5, the victim reported that Rabinkov returned to their home angry and proceeded to pace through the house holding a black handgun, cocking the slide repeatedly, creating a threatening her.
At one point, the victim told officers Rabinkov allegedly pointed the firearm at her and told her to leave the house. He reportedly claimed that if he killed her, he would face no consequences because it would be in self-defense.
The victim reported that Rabinkov owns additional firearms, including two rifles, which further worried her. She alleged that Rabinkov’s actions were motivated by his desire for a divorce. She told officers she suspected he had a new girlfriend.
The victim told MPD that following the incident, she fled the home and traveled to Russia, leaving their child with her parents before returning to the United States.
On January 24, Rabinkov entered the police department lobby to inquire about a restraining order his wife had previously filed. Officers checked his identification and confirmed a warrant for his arrest concerning the November incident.
He was taken into custody without incident, arrested, and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is currently held without bond.
