Tacarus Boyd was recognized as athlete of the month for January during the Margate Commission meeting on January 22.
Captain of the boys’ basketball team Tacarus, 14, is an eighth grader at Margate Middle School with a 3.8 grade point average. He led his team to a 9-1 season record and a berth in the playoffs, where they lost to Sawgrass Springs.
“I love to play basketball, and I want to play in high school. My favorite subject in school is math,” said Tacarus of Lauderdale Lakes.
His mother, Lykeisha Boyd, is proud of her son’s accomplishments, especially his four honors classes, and recommendations by his school for the honor. “We want him to do well in basketball and in academics, and he is doing that,” she said.
According to Lykeisha, Tacarus will play high school basketball next year, but the family has not decided which program he will join. He has received interest from public and private schools with strong basketball programs. Tacarus also plays football, volleyball, and golf.
