Monarch’s Wide Receiver Chris Cortinas Commits to Charlotte Ahead of Senior Season

With the high school football season getting set to begin, Monarch High School standout Chris Cortinas has officially announced his commitment to the University of Charlotte.

“It feels great to commit. It’s truly a blessing,” Cortinas said. “I’m thankful for all my coaches and family that have been with me through this process. I just think Charlotte is a great school with great coaches, and I really love the program over there.”

Cortinas began playing football at age 8 with the Coral Springs Chargers and has spent the past two seasons on Monarch’s varsity team.

As a sophomore, he caught seven passes for 110 yards and a touchdown before taking a major step forward during his junior season. Cortinas hauled in 21 passes for 434 yards and three touchdowns.

The Knights have won a District Championship and a playoff game in each of Cortinas’ two varsity seasons. Monarch went 7-4 in 2024 and defeated Homestead High School in the opening round of the playoffs before winning seven more games in 2025 and shutting out Doral Academy 39-0 in the postseason opener.

With one more high school season remaining before heading to college, Cortinas is eager to continue developing his game. He hopes to improve his spacing when lined up as a receiver and get to the line of scrimmage more quickly.

Monarch is set to open the season on Thursday, August 13, in the Kickoff Classic against Spanish River Community High School. The Knights will then face Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory in their first regular-season game a week later.
