Monarch High School always has a successful fall sports season and is looking for another deep run from their teams in the playoffs.
The football team played only its second complete game of the year. They started off with a win against Peachtree Ridge High School and then had an 8-0 lead against Deerfield Beach before their game was postponed. Coming off a bye in Week 3, the Knights faced off against the 17th-ranked team in Florida and let a late lead slip away, falling 30-26.
Next, Monarch will play against Fort Lauderdale High School on Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m. The Flying are 0-2 this year and had their last game postponed against Charles W. Flanagan High School.
The junior varsity has impressed through its first three games, winning all three and outscoring its opponents 50-20. The Knights won against Boyd H. Anderson and Marjory Stoneman Douglas and then beat Blanche Ely High School on Wednesday. They have been getting an incredible performance from freshman Darren Jeudy, the cousin of NFL star Jerry Judy.
The swim team began its season at Deerfield Beach Aquatic Center, facing off against Dillard and Everglades High School. Last year, the Knights had three swimmers compete in races at Regionals. They also competed in the 200 boys’ and girls’ medley relay and had six seniors graduate.
The girls volleyball team is coached by 2019 graduate Sarah O’Keefe, who recorded her first win on August 26 against Deerfield Beach High School in four sets. They also won against J.P. Taravella but entered this past week with a record of 2-5. However, this week, they dropped a pair of matches against Fort Lauderdale High School and Pembroke Pines Charter.
Next, Monarch will play Coral Glades on Monday, September 16, at 6 p.m. The Knights won In four sets in their only meeting last year.
