Coming off a win in the Kickoff Classic against Coconut Creek, the Monarch High School football team opened their regular season with a 30-29 win over Peachtree Ridge High School on Thursday.
The Knights were down 22-6 at halftime but rallied to outscore Peachtree 22-7 in the second half to pick up their first win. This is the third straight year that Monarch football has won its opening game.
“Survive and advance,” Head Coach Calvin Davis said. “Great team win and great coaching.”
Samaei Reed shined for Monarch, scoring three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 7:13 left in the fourth quarter. They went for the two-point conversion and took their first lead of the game. Bre’lan Mareus scored with a rushing touchdown.
The Knights are coming off a season in which they won their second straight District Championship and first Regional Title in school history. The Knights will play Deerfield Beach High School in their next game on Thursday, August 29, at 7 p.m.
The Bucks are playing Piper High School on Friday, August 23, and lost to Stranahan High School 35-10 in their Kickoff Classic Game.
