The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) took significant steps toward enhancing the city’s landscape during its September 11 meeting, approving a community aesthetics agreement with the state and Department of Transportation for the installation and upkeep of new signs along State Road 7 and Atlantic Boulevard.
The Community Redevelopment Agency board approved a community aesthetics agreement to install and maintain three signs on State Road 7 and Atlantic Boulevard. The signs will welcome residents to the city, and the final design plans have not been released.
Regarding the new City Center project, City manager Cale Curtis said that developers’ bids are being received and the project will soon be opened. According to the Margate website, the CRA has assembled approximately 36 acres near State Road 7 to create a town center.
Commissioner Antonio Arserio noticed that an older building at the corner of State Road 7 and Royal Palm Boulevard had just been put up for sale. He recommended the CRA consider an effort to purchase that building and surrounding buildings for redevelopment.
Commissioner Joanne Simone asked the CRA to consider an “economic garden” program to raise money to help small and emerging businesses in Margate.
