The Monarch High School football team continued its historic streak by winning a third consecutive District Championship on Thursday against Piper High School.
“Awesome feeling,” Head Coach Calvin Davis said. “Hard work pays off.”
The Knights got their first touchdown from quarterback Florentino Lopez on a 20-yard scramble to take an 8-0 lead. The Knights were about to add a second score but fumbled the ball and went on to allow 13 unanswered points to the Bengals.
Samari Reed, though, put Monarch back in front with a 52-yard touchdown before Antwaun Parnham hauled in a 70-yard touchdown pass from Jack Spaeder. The Knights went on to lead 22-20, and Mekhi Miller blocked a field goal to help the Knights improve to 5-3 on the season.
It was also senior night for Monarch as they recognized Romando Johnson, Bre’lan Mareus, Parnham, Jaylin Woods, Jaleel Walters, Antonio Ward, Miller, Jeremy Daniels, Jayden Duprat, DJ Copeland, Jaylen Liberal, Elijah Whyte, Eduardo Barbosa, Deion Macon, Ayden Guy, Kaden Ryder, Jahmeer Beauzil, Jaymin Blake, William Gedeon, Bryan Auguste, Shomari Lawrence and Miguerson Renelus.
