“Imma Kill Your Ass”: Margate Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge After Alleged Shooting

A Margate man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he fired a gun at his brother during a family dispute and threatened to kill him.

According to a Margate Police Department arrest report, Jermaine Hugh Hudson, 44, was arrested August 7 stemming from a reported shooting that took place the previous day.

The report indicates officers first responded to a reported shooting at a Margate residence. Police said the alleged victim told officers he and Hudson, who is his brother, had gotten into a verbal argument that escalated to the point when Hudson came out of his room near the entrance of the home holding a firearm.

According to the affidavit, the mother of the two brothers and Hudson’s son attempted to hold Hudson back. When the victim saw the gun, he stopped approaching and began retreating.

Police said Hudson then allegedly fired a single round in his brother’s direction. The bullet did not strike the victim, but investigators said it hit a large glass object near where he had been standing.

The victim ran into his room and called 911 before heading into the backyard in an attempt to get away from Hudson, according to police.

Hudson allegedly followed him into the backyard while still holding the firearm, pointed it at him and said, “Imma kill your ass.” Police said Hudson fled before officers arrived.

During a search of the residence, investigators said they found a spent shell casing on the floor near Hudson’s room, shattered glass and a trail of blood leading toward the homeowner’s room.

According to the affidavit, the blood was from a homeowner who stepped on glass shattered during the incident.

During the investigation of the shooting, Margate officers conducting surveillance at the residence saw a car stop outside before driving away, according to the affidavit. Police conducted a felony traffic stop at 800 South Rock Island Road and allegedly found Hudson concealing himself in the back seat of the vehicle.

Upon interview, Hudson told detectives his brother lunged toward him and that he fired a single round toward the ground in an attempt to make him back away.

Hudson was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
