
Seniors From The Monarch High School Baseball Team. {954 Preps}
With the playoffs approaching, several teams honored their seniors before pivotal games.
The Monarch baseball team closed the regular season with a 19-0 win over Blanche Ely High School. The Knights recognized Kyle Jensen, Diego Rojas, Anthony Mercado, and Juan Londono before scoring a season-high 19 runs.
Van Maxwell and Robert Brown each drove in four runs, while Jensen, Sammy Stanley, Diego Rojas, Mercado, Londano, and Noel Soledispa all drove in runs. The Knights also stole 12 bases while Jensen won on the mound. Nathan Zolinoswki also recorded the final two outs in relief.
Monarch improved 7-16 with the win heading into the District Tournament. The Knights are seeded fifth and will play Piper High School in their first game on Monday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. The Bengals are 10-8-1 this season, and the winner is scheduled to play West Boca Raton High School. Coral Springs High School and Olympic Heights Community High School will play along with Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale High School.
The Monarch softball team won 20-0 in its game against Blanche Ely High School. The team’s seniors are Faith Linderman, Denise Guzman, Mia Macaione, Gabriela Pearson, Sammie Rice, Emily Phipps, Elena Ramirez, Sara Connor, and Camryn Piskun.
All nine Knights players drove in at least one run, with Gabriela Pearson and Sara Connor homering and driving in three. Denise Guzman, Phipps, and Piskun played three, while Linderman drove in two. Macaione, Rice, and Ramirez each had one RBI, while Macaione, Ramirez, and Piskun pitched a scoreless inning to help the Knights improve to 8-8 this year. Monarch will play Olympic Heights Community High School in their next game on Monday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. The Lions come into the game with six wins in 23 games.
The Monarch Flag football team finished the regular season 5-8 and honored Saniah Whyte, Layla Levy, Ania Graham, and Alexandria Taylor. The Knights previously won against David Posnack Jewish Day, Cooper City, Blanche Ely, Coconut Creek, and Coral Springs High School.
Monarch won three games by shutout and outscored their opponents 88-14. They will begin the District Tournament with a matchup against Coral Glades on Monday, April 14, at 6 p.m. The Jaguars are the third seed after going 13-1 this season and posting a 9-0 win over the Knights in their lone matchup.
There was also Senior Night with the tennis and beach volleyball squads. The boys’ tennis team featured Sam Hammer and went 8-7 during the regular season. The girls team won five matches and had two seniors, Sasha Stein, and Morgan Hoing. They are now set to play in the District Tournament letter this month, with the Eagles looking to qualify for the State Championship.
The beach volleyball team is 3-5 this year and had impressive wins over Highland Christian, Sports Leadership and Management, and Somerset Academy Canyons. Madison Easton is their lone senior. They will play again on Monday, April 14, against Calvary Christian Academy at 4 p.m. CCA is 8-3 this year and won all five matches last season.
