Broward County Animal Care is teaming up with Pets Broward to host the “Shelter Shindig,” a volunteer-powered event aimed at pampering shelter dogs and encouraging community involvement in animal welfare.
Set for Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Broward County Animal Care in Fort Lauderdale, the event invites residents to lend a hand while experiencing the joy of helping shelter animals.
Volunteers will participate in activities such as bathing, brushing, walking dogs, and preparing enrichment items—all designed to enhance the well-being of adoptable pets.
Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care, called the event “a meaningful expression of what happens when community and compassion come together,” emphasizing the vital role volunteers play in daily shelter operations.
Meredith Bruder, Founder and Director of Pets Broward, echoed the importance of collaboration, noting that events like these bring attention to the emotional needs of homeless pets and the hope of finding them forever homes.
The Shelter Shindig is free and open to the public. Attendees can learn more about volunteer opportunities, meet adoptable animals, and explore ways to support Broward County’s goal of becoming a no-kill community.
