Monarch High School shined this fall with players from the football and volleyball teams picked to All-Star Games.
The football team had another historic season, winning a third straight District Title and advancing one round in the postseason before having several players compete with Shamari Lawrence, Jaylin Liberal, Mekhi Miller, and Jaleel Walters in the BCAA All-Star Game.
Lawrence played on the defensive line and had 36 tackles, including two sacks this year. Liberal added 24 tackles and had an interception, while Miller finished second on the team in tackles with 63. He had 11 of them go for a loss while leading the team with eight sacks. Walters finished the season with 22 tackles and also had an interception.
The Knights also had four players and a coach compete in the Dade vs. Broward All-Star Game, which was won by Broward 17-15. Ole Miss signee Samari Reed was one of the players after rushing for 547 yards and 12 touchdowns while 579 recovering yards and four more scores.
Antwaun Parham will play at Tulane University and had 750 yards and six touchdowns. He also threw a 25-yard completion and had five carries for 143 yards.
Bryan Auguste is signed with the University of Kentucky and shined on the offensive line, protecting quarterback Jack Spaeder and Florentino Lopez. Auguste also had 145 pancake blocks, while Bre’Lan Mareus ran for 489 yards and four touchdowns.
Coach Roberto Montanez, who is in charge of Monarch’s offensive line, was also selected to coach for the second straight year. He was a Monarch graduate in 2014 and helped the team win their first District Championship in school history. Stephany Garcia was also the team manager.
Monarch also had Adrianna Rivera from the girls volleyball team compete in the BCAA All-Star Game. The Knights finished the season with four wins.
