An AT&T facility in Margate was burglarized, and at least $50,000 worth of fiber optic splicing devices stolen during a daring overnight heist, police records show.
An unidentified burglar, working alone or with another thief, cut through the fence on the east side of the facility, which police records describe as a “compound,” on Oct. 16. The address of the facility was not made public.
The burglar then pried the lock plate off a back door to gain entry to the building sometime before 6 a.m., police said.
Once inside, the thief or thieves pried open several locked office doors until they found the room holding fusion splicers: valuable devices used to splice together fiber optic cables. The machines sell for around $5,000 a piece, police said.
Between ten and 15 of the machines were stolen, records show.
No arrests had been announced in the case as of Friday.
