A Margate Police officer was injured, and a suspect or suspects remain at large following a street takeover incident on Sunday, authorities said.
Officers responded to reports of a street takeover by vehicles in the 2900 block of Banks Road, according to Maj. Michael Druzbik, a spokesperson for the Margate Police Department. During the incident, an officer who was on foot was struck by a vehicle.
Police said the officer subsequently fired their gun, though it remained unclear whether the vehicle or anyone inside it was hit.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the shooting and has not yet been located. Authorities have not released a description of the vehicle or any suspects as of Sunday afternoon.
The injured officer was transported as a trauma alert to Broward Health North, where officials said the officer is expected to make a full recovery.
Detectives are investigating the incident.
