After an 11-run fourth inning, the Monarch High School softball team picked up a win Wednesday afternoon on Senior Night.
The Knights defeated Nova High School, with seniors Isabella Castelli and Ciera Taylor honored.
Since she was a freshman, Castelli has played on the varsity team. She had her best season as a junior, where she picked up three wins, an ERA of 2.49, striking out 67 hitters in 50.2 innings.
On Monday, Castelli was also named a scholar-athlete of the year this year for her work on and off the field and struck out eight in five shutout innings against the Titans. She has committed to playing softball at St. Thomas University.
Taylor spent three seasons at Coral Springs Charter and won a State Championships. She hit .351 and drove in ten runs as a Panther and has improved that in her lone year with Monarch High School, recording two hits, two runs, and an RBI on Senior Night.
Taylor recently committed to play at Florida Memorial University,
Leading the team with three RBIs was Mia MacAion, while Adrianna Zullo had two. Faith Linderman, Mak Foster, Sara Connor, and Sarah Phillips knocked in one to push Monarch’s record to 10-7-1.
“Wednesday’s win was just what we needed going into the last week of regular season play,” said Head Coach Kenny Forbes. “The bats coming alive like that on senior night just shows how this teams ready to back up their senior pitching battery.”
Next, they play St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Friday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. The Knights have two more games before starting the District Tournament.
