After a great District Tournament for Monarch His School, the Knights are sending a pair of tennis players to States.
Corey Craig, who committed to play at Boston University next year, advanced directly to States after his 6-0, 6-1 win over Marjory Stoneman Douglas. He is currently 11-0 this season.
Craig will also be playing in States with his doubles partner Tai Le. Those two have gone 10-0 this year and also beat Marjory Stoneman Douglas 6-4, 4-6 (10-8) in Districts.
Despite a young team, the Knight had every player advance to the semifinals of Districts and had three reach the final. The rest of their team consists of Gianni Forges, Josh Gabiatti, Mathew Shortino, Akash Sookedo, and Vincent Toledo.
Head Coach Jim Gard, who has been a teacher for 41 years and coach for 35, says this team has been a pleasure to coach.
“The season was a lot of fun, and it is just great coaching these players,” said Coach Gard.
Next, Craig and Le will compete in States in Orlando starting on Wednesday, April 27.
