Monarch High School had quite a run in the postseason, with the boys soccer team nearly pulling off a historic upset.
The Knights won only eight games in the regular season but shined in the District Tournament, winning three games and outscoring their opponents 6-1. Monarch went on to face top-seeded South Broward High School in the Regional Quarterfinals. The Bulldogs rank fourth in Florida and seventh in the nation and won 3-2 to advance to the Semifinals.
Monarch finished the season 11-12-3 and will have Alexis Vera, Gabe Lana, Sebastian Murillo, Brandon Amaral, Santiago Arrioja, Matthew Pereira, and Vitor Bastos graduate this year. Lucpez finished the season with the most goals while Gus Game and Tony Dos Santos each had dour and will return next year for the senior year.
Lana, Amaral, Kenny Santos, Gabriel Cardoso, and Alexander Ortiz all scored as well, while Odair Possu and Andres Morales Perez shined in net, combining to record over 150 saves.
The boys basketball team finished the season 7-11 after falling in the District Tournament against South Plantation High School. The Knights started the season 0-4 but had wins over McArthur, Boca Raton, Hallandale, Spanish River, Hollywood Hills, South Broward, and Coconut Creek High School.
Benjamin Boutin and Nikyle Campbell each finish the season averaging at least ten points per game. Boutin Boutin, Floyd Hepburn, Brandon Lynn, Zachary Mason, Tristan Philogene, Kayden Williams, and Sidney Lewinsky are all set to graduate this year.
The Monarch girls’ basketball team struggled in their District Tournament game against Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The Knights fell 63-4 and ended the year with wins this season over Hallandale and Pompano Beach High School. Their seniors are Alexiya Gray, Frida de La Fuente, Layla Levy, Sasha Rodriguez, Jaylyn Browne, and Jael Dixon.
