Grace of God Restaurant, located at 360 South State Road 7, was ordered shut on November 4 after state health inspectors found multiple violations, including live and dead roaches, sewage backing up through floor drains, and an inaccessible handwashing sink.
According to the inspection report, nine violations were discovered during the visit. Inspectors documented in the report live roach activity, including that found crawling on employee medicine and personal cups on a dry storage rack, inside a non-working two-door cooler, and on a bag of rice in the kitchen’s dry storage area.
Inspectors also found dead roaches, including next to a small chest freezer and three under a three-compartment sink in the kitchen.
The report also cited sewage and wastewater backing up through floor drains, producing a “brownish water with a pungent smell” whenever the handwashing sink faucet was turned on. The report also made note that this was the only handwashing sink available in the kitchen or the cook line.
Another violation was noted: the handwashing sink in the employee restroom was blocked by a mattress.
After being ordered to close for cleanup, Grace of God Restaurant was later allowed to reopen following a re-inspection that confirmed the issues had been corrected.
