Dog lovers got together at Firefighters Park to enjoy the first Bark in the Park on November 8.
Those who own dogs could socialize with others. They could also meet veterinarians and other vendors at the event.
Families who wanted a new fur baby could learn about adopting or fostering a dog.
The Humane Society of Broward County brought dogs that were available for adoption. People could play with the dogs and get to know them. “We encourage people who want a dog to adopt one, and we have many friendly dogs available,” said Darlene Rankin, Director of the Adoption Division.
Bringing a dog into a family is like entering into a relationship with a human. “People have to get to know a dog, and the dog has to get to know the humans. We want families to get to know the dogs they want to adopt,” said Rankin.
Amanda Butler, Outreach Director of Broward County Animal Care, was also offering dogs for adoption and fostering. “We have very nice dogs available, and we offer support to help them get to know their new family members,” said Butler. People could spend time with the Animal Care dogs.
Those who wanted to get to know a rescue dog could also meet with Kerri Kakiel of Good Karma Pet Rescue. Families could familiarize themselves with the dogs she had available.

Commissioner Anthony Caggianio was pleased with Bark in the Park. “I love this event because people are having fun. I like seeing smiles on people’s faces,” he said.
