Monarch High School officially had ten more football players sign to play college football next year, while two players also announced their commitment.
Santana Harrison will attend St. Thomas University, where he will play in college with teammates Terrel Lo-Ray, Malik Kelsey, Trayvon Washington, and Adin Lin. Harrison was a leader on defense for the Knights, helping them win their second straight District Championship and first Regional Title in school history.
The senior led the team with 130 tackles and also had seven sacks. Kelsey shined at running back with over 700 yards and 12 touchdowns playing behind Lin on the offensive line. Washington was a leader on the defensive line and will immediately impact college.
Landon Bolding is signed with Florida A&M University. He finished fifth on the team in tackles with 61 and third with nine sacks. Trevon Chisholm will continue his football career at Bethune Cookman University and was another star defense for Monarch along with Logan Coelho, who will attend Theil College in Pennsylvania.
Monarch’s center Aidan Schwartz signed with Rochester University, while A.J. Hairston, Melvin Puckett, Holden Zeltner, and Gabriel Birnbaum all signed in December.
Monarch’s also had a pair of players commit to Bethel College with running back Emmanuel Lavaud and wide receiver Robert Woods.
“It feels good achieving this knowing all the adversity I have been through,” Lavaud said. “Just thankful God put me in this situation.”
Lavaud began playing football when he was 11 with the North Lauderdale Panthers. This past season, Lavaud ran the ball 60 times for 518 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 108 yards and a score.
For college, Lavaud says he established a strong relationship with the coaching staff and hopes to build up his speed, stamina, and agility to improve at the next level, while Woods had 271 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. They are set to play for a team that went 6-5 this past season.
