Woman Grabs Attacker’s Gun to Flee After Alleged Choking and False Imprisonment

A man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly choking a woman and stopping her from leaving during an argument over infidelity, with the woman escaping only after grabbing his gun.

A Margate Police Department incident report shows that Rodchild Saguste Capita, 26, was taken into custody on May 10 and faces multiple felony charges, including false imprisonment, domestic battery by strangulation, and criminal mischief.

According to the report, Margate Police officers responded to a residence near the 240 block of Northwest 78th Avenue after the victim reported that a verbal argument escalated when Capita locked the door to prevent her from leaving and threatened that he would shoot her if she tried to leave.

The victim told officers the situation grew worse when Capita allegedly punched the victim in the face, pushed her against a wall, and attempted to take her cellphone forcibly, according to the report.

According to the report, during the struggle, the victim bit Capita to defend herself, at which point Capita allegedly placed both hands around her neck and choked her to the point where she struggled to breathe. He would later smash her cellphone against furniture during the assault.

The woman told police she ultimately managed to push Capita off her and escape. Before leaving, she grabbed a firearm belonging to Capita and held it behind her back until she was permitted to leave.

Officers responding to the call located Capita at the residence and detained him. During an interview, Capita admitted to scuffling over the cellphone and acknowledged possibly pushing the victim, but denied any further physical violence.

Capita was transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $6,000 bond.
