Shakeita Latrise Brunson {BSO}
A woman arrested for DUI is accused of intentionally urinating in a patrol car, flooding a police holding cell with a clogged toilet, and spreading urine throughout the cell.
According to the MPD arrest report, officers stopped Shakeita Latrise Brunson, 42, of Coral Springs, on February 25 after observing her making an improper turn near Rock Island Road and West Atlantic Boulevard.
Police said the officer who initiated the traffic stop smelled alcohol coming from Brunson and noted that her eyes appeared glassy and bloodshot. Brunson agreed to a roadside sobriety test but reportedly performed poorly during several evaluations. After completing the tests, officers arrested Brunson on suspicion of DUI.
Authorities said the situation escalated after Brunson was transported to Margate Police Department headquarters. While being transported, officers reported that Brunson urinated in the rear prisoner compartment of the patrol vehicle. Once inside the department’s holding cell, police say she allegedly clogged the toilet by placing her T-shirt inside it, causing the cell to flood.
Investigators said Brunson then spread urine throughout the holding cell and threw urine and water out of the cell, contaminating the area. The incident was severe enough that the department had to call a biohazard cleanup company to decontaminate both the holding cell and the patrol vehicle used during the arrest.
Brunson was charged with DUI, refusal to submit to DUI testing, criminal mischief related to the damage inside the holding cell, and issued a citation for the improper turn that led to the traffic stop. She was later released after posting a $1,150 bond.
