Matthew Gabriel Grantham {BSO}
A Margate man was arrested after police say he violently attacked his wife during an argument sparked by her playing video games instead of doing household chores.
According to a Margate Police Department incident report, the victim told investigators that her husband, identified as Matthew Gabriel Grantham, 48, of Margate, became enraged on May 9 after he found her playing video games.
Upset that she was not helping with chores, but rather, had asked him to do the dishes, Grantham allegedly yanked the gaming controller from her hands and ripped the device away from the television, according to the report.
The dispute escalated when Grantham allegedly pushed the victim onto a bed and began choking her, reportedly telling her, “You should just kill yourself, we’d all be better off!”
The victim told officers the choking lasted between 30 seconds and a minute, leaving her struggling to breathe and fearful she would lose consciousness, according to the report.
After the attack, the woman fled to a friend’s house to avoid further violence.
According to MPD records, the next day, the victim reported the incident to authorities, speaking with a labored voice and limping. Officers documented red marks on her neck, bruising on her wrist, and signs of a possible ankle sprain.
Later that day, Grantham was taken into custody and arrested at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines. He was later released after posting a $6,000 bond.
