
Margate Police {Aiden Palmer}
The Margate Police Department responded to various incidents and made multiple arrests between February 24 and March 2, 2026.
Incidents
Theft: A victim reported that a known subject, Charles Helton, took his cellphone at 513 N. State Road 7. A notice to appear in court (NIC) was filed with the State Attorney’s Office for review.
• Residential Burglary: A burglary was reported on the 600 block of NW 6th Court on Feb. 25 at about 9:55 a.m. A neighbor provided video footage showing a suspect exiting a west door.
• Domestic Battery: A domestic battery was reported on the 5000 block of SW 50th Terrace. Matthew Dolce allegedly pushed the victim in the chest and fled before officers arrived. An NIC was filed.
• Simple Battery: A victim standing outside Stop-N-Shop at 430 NW 65th Terrace was approached by Andres Pena, who allegedly pushed the victim down twice and punched him in the head before fleeing in a white van with a generator attached. Both parties were reported to be homeless. The victim requested prosecution, and an NIC was completed.
• Retail Theft: A woman entered Marshalls at 5461 W. Atlantic Blvd., selected clothing and shoes, and left without paying. The merchandise totaled $307.93. The suspect was seen entering a gray Kia Soul traveling westbound on Atlantic Boulevard. Prosecution was requested.
• Retail Theft: An unknown woman entered Dollar General and filled a shopping cart with merchandise before leaving the store without paying and fleeing in a gray Kia Soul. The total value of the stolen items was not determined. The store wishes to pursue charges if the suspect is identified.
• Assault: At The Sweet Spot Desserts, 1021 N. State Road 7, Martin Cappello caused a disturbance and allegedly threatened to kill an employee after being asked to leave, saying he would wait for her after work.
• Aggravated Battery: Officers responded to the SW 7th Street area after a victim was struck in the head with a beer bottle by an unknown suspect who fled on foot, leaving a cellphone behind. Officers observed blood at the scene and the victim suffered a head injury.
• Domestic Violence: Police responded to the SW 6th Street area regarding an incident involving Ervens Sabin. The victim, who is 18 weeks pregnant, said Sabin slapped her during an argument after she confronted him about cheating. Sabin left before officers arrived, and the victim later declined to provide a sworn statement. An NIC was filed.
Arrests
• Traffic / Driving While License Suspended: Joseph Amick, 71, was arrested near 7600 W. Atlantic Blvd. for driving with a suspended license with 11 prior convictions. He was also cited for attaching an unassigned tag.
• Grand Theft / Domestic Battery: James Hopper was arrested at 2801 N. State Road 7 after allegedly elbowing a victim, taking her cellphone as she attempted to call 911, grabbing her car keys, and fleeing in her Honda before returning and being taken into custody.
• Violation of Probation: Jerry Derenoncourt, 42, was arrested at 170 S. State Road 7 during a traffic stop on an active warrant for five counts of child abuse. He was transported to the Broward County Jail.
• Warrant Arrest: Sean Callan, 57, was arrested at CVS on North State Road 7 after staff reported he was throwing milk at customers. During the investigation, officers discovered an active warrant issued by the Broward Sheriff’s Office for trespassing. He was transported to jail after being medically cleared.
• Trespassing / Resisting Without Violence: Larry Williams, 63, was arrested on the NW 27th Court area after being found sleeping in a resident’s yard and refusing to leave or identify himself.
• Retail Theft: Hector Valle, 31, was arrested at Walmart, 5555 W. Atlantic Blvd., after allegedly stealing steaks and oxtail valued at about $121.
• DUI / Criminal Mischief: Shakeita Latrise Brunson, 41, was arrested near 450 Rock Island Rd. for DUI. While in custody, she allegedly spread contaminated toilet water around a holding cell and corridor, causing damage estimated between $200 and $1,000 and requiring a hazmat response.
• Narcotics Possession: Gregory Stryker, 50, and Tammy Karvonen, 54, were arrested at 7405 W. Atlantic Blvd. and charged with possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis, and drug paraphernalia.
• Possession of Cannabis Over 20 Grams: Edward Dorvilus, 30, was arrested near 7401 Margate Blvd. after a traffic stop.
• Aggravated Assault: Melissa Nesbit, 35, was arrested on the SW 61st Avenue area after allegedly threatening a resident with a knife.
• Capias / DUI With Property Damage: Reginald Sweeney, 60, was arrested near 100 Rock Island Rd. after officers stopped him for a bicycle violation and discovered a capias warrant.
• Narcotics Possession: Conrod Buchanna, 52, was arrested outside Jerzy’s Sports Pub, 6500 W. Atlantic Blvd., after officers saw him drop a bag of suspected cocaine during an open container investigation.
• Narcotics Possession: Jonathan Crozier, 33, was arrested near 7600 W. Atlantic Blvd. during a traffic stop. Officers reported he had 60 grams of suspected marijuana, two suspected MDMA pills, and two firearms. He was charged with two counts of narcotics possession.
• DUI: Andres Octavio Osorio Torres, 48, was arrested at Rock Island Road and Royal Palm Boulevard after officers found him passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle at an intersection. He was charged with DUI, refusal to submit to a breath test, and issued a citation for obstructing traffic.
• Felony Warrant / Resisting Without Violence: Bentaevia Gipson, 23, was arrested at 651 NW 70th Way on a felony warrant and resisting without violence charge.
• Aggravated Assault / Domestic Violence: Antwon Demmoris J. Fulton, 21, was arrested on the NW 80th Avenue area in connection with an aggravated assault domestic violence incident.
• Domestic Violence: Pitchon Pierre, 31, was arrested on the SW 56th Terrace area after allegedly striking the victim multiple times and strangling her for about 10 seconds during an argument. The victim escaped the home and called 911.
