Donte Antwon Dixon Jr {BSO}
A man is facing a slew of serious charges after Margate Police say he kidnapped, exploited, and repeatedly robbed a disabled man.
According to an MPD arrest report, Donte Antwon Dixon Jr., 19, of Pompano Beach, was arrested on August 1 in connection with a string of crimes against a 22-year-old victim, who has autism and diabetes.
Records show the victim told police that Dixon, whom he knew, approached him on July 8 near a CVS Pharmacy and forced him into his vehicle by threatening to retrieve a firearm and harm the victim or his family. The victim told officers he had previously given Dixon $280 voluntarily, but the latest incident escalated into threats.
The affidavit says Dixon drove the victim to a pawn shop and attempted to sell the victim’s two cell phones. When that failed due to a lack of identification, Dixon allegedly returned home to retrieve his ID, then brought the victim back to the shop.
After another failed attempt, police say Dixon used an EcoATM kiosk at a Margate Walmart to successfully pawn the victim’s iPhone 16 and Galaxy A15 for a total of $128.
Investigators say that Dixon allegedly took the victim to a Winn-Dixie grocery store and had him cash a $110 check from “Cash for Diabetics.” Both men endorsed the check, but the victim told police that Dixon took all the money.
Video surveillance, EcoATM records, and license plate reader data were used to track Dixon and confirm the victim’s account. Dixon later confessed to the transactions, admitting he knew the victim was “slow”.
Detectives recovered both phones and returned them to the victim.
Dixon was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he remains held without bond as he awaits his first court appearance.
