Lightning Strike in Margate Kills Mother and 2-Year-Old Child

1 Person Shot, 1 Stabbed at Margate Residence

A 31-year-old mother and her 2-year-old child died after they were reportedly struck by lightning Sunday afternoon in Margate.

Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, to a 911 call reporting that two people had been struck by lightning near 7941 Northwest 1st Street.

When officers and fire rescue personnel arrived, they found 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow and her 2-year-old child lying on a sidewalk.

First responders immediately began providing emergency medical treatment, including CPR, according to police.

Glasgow was transported by Margate Fire Rescue to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach.

Her child was transported to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, accompanied by a police escort.

Despite efforts by first responders and hospital medical personnel, both Glasgow and her child were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospitals.

The Margate Police Department tells Margate Talk that the incident remains under investigation.
