The North Broward Prep baseball team won their second straight Regional Championship on Tuesday after hitting a school-record 11 home runs.
The Eagles defeated Westminster Christian 14-12 in a wild game that featured 15 home runs from the two teams.
Jonathan Xuereb hit three, while Nikolas Koorse and Nathanael Coupet had two. Clancy Marsh, Riley Luft, and Yoel Tejada Jr. all had one to set the school record.
“I’m super proud of my players and coaches for all the hard work they put in all year,” said Head Coach Brian Campbell. “It was a crazy game. I have never been a part of something like that, but I’m glad we were on the right side of it.”
Tejada made the start and earned the win allowing only two earned runs. Xuereb and Jensen Seculer came in relief to close it out after striking out seven in the game.”
“As crazy as it sounds, I thought both teams pitched pretty well in a 14-12 game”, Coach Campbell added. “I tip my hat to Westminster as they had a great season.
NBP picked up their 21st win this season which ties their mark from last year. They will look to break that record in the State Semifinals in Fort Myers on Tuesday, May 24. The Eagles will wait for the new seedlings to come out to see who they are playing.
