It was an unbelievable performance from the Monarch High School Track and Field Team on Tuesday at Coral Springs High School.
“We were able to produce District Champions in four events and qualify for Regional Championships in eight events,” said Head Coach Dione Hester. “This team has worked very hard to be where they are today. They deserve whatever accolades that may come their way, and I live it.”
The lone member from the boy’s team to qualify was Darren Kong, who came in first in the triple jump. Gianna Potenzano won the 800 meters for the girls, while the Knights won two the District Championship in two relay races. Katrice Burke, Kaylee Isen, Shayna Agatstein, and Potenzanowon the 4 x 800 relay, while May Ibiri, Isen, Katrice Burke, and Potenzano took first in the 4 x 400 relay.
Monarch had four other top-four finishes, with Burke placing second in the 400 meters. Ibiri advanced in the long and triple jumps while Sabrina Dorelien came in third in the Discus. Next, Monarch will compete in Regionals on May 7 at Southridge Park in South Miami.
