Monarch’s incredible season ended in the state semifinals on Friday against Jacksonville’s Mandarin High School.
Held in Coconut Creek, the Knights fell 51-21 and finished the season with a record of 11-3. They also won their second straight District Championship and first Regional Title in School history.
Antonio Ward recorded a two-yard rushing score to open the scoring before allowing nine points to fall behind by two at halftime. The two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter, with Jack Spaeder tossing a touchdown pass to Samari Reed. AJ Hairston also connected with Jabari Brady, but the Mustangs converted but converted and led 24-21. Mandarin scored four more touchdowns after a pair of interceptions and an onside kick to move on to play Christopher Columbus High School in the final.
The Knights will have Emanuel Lavaud, Santana Harrison, Hairston, Treyon Washington, Terell Lo-Ray, Jeffrey Wright, Robert Woods, Landon Boling, Marcus Talabert, Malik Kelsey, Malik Young, Leonard Ester, LJ Muff, Demarcus Pierce, Trey Driscoll, Zachary Driscoll, Logan Coehlo, Gabriel De Carvalho, Josh Doerfler, Gabriel Birnbaum, Aiden Schwartz, Melvin Pluckett, Adin Lin and Holden Zeltner all graduate. These seniors were recognized earlier this year and have several set to play at the next level.
