Margate Middle School has been named a Magnet School of Excellence, an academic honor in the school’s history.
A significant focus of Margate Middle’s magnet is S.T.E.M. and the Cambridge International program. The goal is to encourage students to work at a higher academic level and learn to address complex situations and problems.
In science, students were asked to plan a trip to Mars. According to Thomas Morgan, assistant principal, they had to consider the challenge of traveling to the red planet, how to survive there, and how to set up a civilization under harsh conditions.
The Cambridge program encourages students to prepare for demanding high school and college courses and solve complex problems. According to Morgan, students who have completed the Cambridge program are recognized by universities worldwide as having strong academic abilities.
Magnet Schools of America is founded on diversity, innovative curriculum, professional development, academic excellence, leadership and family, and community partnerships.
“We worked hard to show we were meeting these criteria, and we are proud of our magnet program,” said Morgan.
