A long-standing tradition celebrating active lifestyles among older adults returns next month as the Margate Senior Games welcome competitors from across the region.
Now in its 47th year, the Margate Senior Games has been a community fixture since 1979, drawing participants not only from Margate but also from neighboring cities. The annual event is open to residents ages 60 and older.
This year’s games run March 2 through March 6 and feature a wide range of activities designed to appeal to many interests and skill levels. Individual competitions include horseshoes, billiards, shuffleboard, Rummikub, dominoes, golf putting, basketball free-throw shooting, and Wii bowling.
Team competitions will also include pétanque, bocce, pickleball, and mixed doubles tennis. Outdoor competitions include horseshoes, shuffleboard, golf putting, basketball, pétanque, and bocce, while indoor events include Wii bowling and billiards.
Endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Amateur Sports, the games typically attract several hundred participants each year, promoting fitness, social connection, and friendly competition among seniors, according to the city.
Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony on March 9, where medals will be presented to first, second, and third-place finishers.
Registration for the games remains open through Feb. 23. Seniors interested in participating can sign up online at www.margatefl.com/seniorgames.
