The Margate city manager and department heads will be able to spend more on various purchases without commission approval.
During the February 4 meeting, the commission passed an ordinance raising the amount the city manager may spend on purchases of commodities and contractual services from $50,000 to $100,000.
City manager Cale Curtis said a study had been completed on purchasing limits in nearby cities, which showed those cities had increased the amount of money managers are permitted to spend. This ordinance would bring Margate up to date and improve efficiency.
The ordinance also increased the amount department heads can spend on single purchases from $3,500 to $5,000 without using a competitive bidding process.
