The Fair at Margate will take place again starting in late November.
Following a discussion among commissioners during the October 8 meeting about the challenges of running a large fair, the commission passed a resolution approving a temporary use permit for Hildebrand Amusement Rides, allowing them to hold the fair at 1000 North State Road 7 from November 21 to December 7.
Commissioner Anthony Caggiano is looking forward to it. “I love the fair and seeing the smiling faces of all the people who come. We expect up to 50,000 people to come, and this fair is affordable to the local community.”
A few residents have complained about the increase in noise and the potential for problems because of large crowds. Caggiano said the fair operator will pay for increased law enforcement presence. The police officers appreciate the opportunity to earn more money by working the event.
Commissioner Joanne Simone was strongly opposed to the fair and stated that Hildebrand was late in paying rent and that they began advertising before receiving commission approval.
The Fair at Margate is a significant event featuring many traditional fair rides, including Ferris Wheels, the Cyclone, and Music Express. There are various forms of entertainment and food vendors. Hildebrand has agreed to pay a $100,000 rent deposit by November 21 and another $25,000 by December 1.
