Margate Commission Approves Funding Agreement with Broward Schools for SROs

Broward Public Schools Considering Margate Elementary Campus for Teacher Housing

Margate Elementary School students will continue to be served by School Resource Officers from the city’s police department.

During the August 19 meeting, the commission passed a resolution approving an agreement with the School Board of Broward County for partial funding of four School Resource Officers (SROs).

The officers, members of the Margate Police Department, will serve at Atlantic West Elementary, Margate Elementary, Liberty Elementary, and Margate Middle for the term August 3, 2026 through June 1, 2027 at a monthly reimbursement rate of $11,923.54 per SRO and total reimbursement of $476,941.60, according to city information.

At the elementary and middle school levels, SROs typically teach D.A.R.E. courses and encourage students to develop positive relationships with law enforcement.
