Those interested in participating in the development of the Margate City Center are encouraged to attend a pre-bid meeting.
According to city manager Cale Curtis, the pre-bid meeting at City Hall on June 25 at 2 p.m. will be a virtual meeting run by Colliers and their staff to evaluate different firms interested in the process.
Margate city leaders are heavily invested in the 50 acres known as City Center. They hope a successful mixed-use development will revitalize the city and make it more prominent in northern Broward County.
Commissioner Anthony Caggiano said that the City Center development must be appropriately built because it will determine Margate’s future for about 50 years.
“This project is significant to the city because it will bring people and economic development. Margate has a lot to offer, and I want people to see us the same way they see Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, and Parkland,” said Caggiano.
Vice Mayor Arlene Schwartz agrees and wants Margate to be where people want to visit, work, and live. “I am tired of people seeing Margate as a pass-through city. I want it to be a destination city,” she said.
According to city information, the Margate CRA has about 50 acres on State Road 7, including the former Swap Shop property, the Ace Hardware Plaza, and the Chevy Chase shopping plaza. The goal is to create a central town center.
The envisioned City Center will be a dynamic hub, offering a mix of retail stores, restaurants, and public spaces. It will also include a residential component, an amphitheater for outdoor events, and a public open space.
The project aims to create a vibrant, walkable destination for both Margate residents and visitors. The Margate CRA has committed to providing over $5 million in funding for the project’s public components, according to city information.
