A man was arrested Thursday for a high-speed, alcohol-fueled crash in January that killed three people and injured two others in Margate, authorities said.
Jeremiah Terrance Anderson, 26, of Fort Lauderdale, faces more than a dozen felony charges, including multiple counts of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, following a six-month investigation into the deadly wreck that occurred just before midnight on Jan. 15.
According to an arrest affidavit from the Margate Police Department, vehicle data showed Anderson was driving a 2018 BMW at 86 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone when he ran a red light at the intersection of North Rock Island Road and Royal Palm Boulevard.
The BMW crashed into a silver Honda, killing all three occupants: Brayan Steven Wilches Nino, 24; Nancy Sanchez, 26; and Diana Carlino Nino Espinosa, 47, according to police.
Anderson’s passenger, who was seriously injured and required surgery for internal bleeding, later told investigators she and Anderson had been drinking together that evening, and that he had been driving “way too fast.” She said she urged him “multiple times to slow down and stop driving like this,” according to the affidavit.
A person in a third vehicle also suffered minor injuries, police said.
A blood analysis showed Anderson’s blood alcohol content was 0.152%—nearly twice Florida’s legal limit of 0.08%—and that he also had THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana, in his system at the time of the crash, the report states.
Police also noted that Anderson should not have been driving; His license had been suspended since February 14, 2022—nearly two years before the crash.
Anderson was taken into custody Thursday and booked into the Broward Main Jail, where he was being held without bond, according to jail records.
Other charges against Anderson include DUI with serious bodily injury, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license causing death, records show.
