Fundraiser for 2-Year-Old Who Lost Mother, Twin Sister in Margate Lightning Strike Tops $83K

A GoFundMe for the surviving 2-year-old daughter of a Margate mother killed alongside the girl’s twin sister in a deadly lightning strike has raised more than $83,000.

The fundraiser, “Love & Support for Kensli Jade,” was organized by Kameron Glasgow, whose wife, Kenya Simmons-Glasgow, 31, and daughter, Kennedi Rose Glasgow, 2, died after being struck by lightning August 23 near 7941 Northwest 1st Street.

As of late Thursday morning, the campaign had raised $83,287 toward a $90,000 goal from roughly 1,500 donations, according to GoFundMe.

The fundraiser is intended to help Kameron Glasgow provide for Kensli Jade, Kennedi’s twin sister, as the girl’s sole parent.

“In a matter of moments, Kensli’s father and Kenya’s husband, Kameron Glasgow, was faced with unimaginable grief while also carrying the responsibility of continuing to provide his little girl with the love, care, security, and stability she needs,” the fundraiser page says.

“Kensli is only two years old,” the page adds. “While she may not yet fully understand the magnitude of what has happened, the loss of her mother and twin sister will forever be a part of her story.”

Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue rushed to the scene around 2:30 p.m. following a 911 call reporting that two people had been struck by lightning. First responders found Kenya and her 2-year-old child lying on a sidewalk and immediately began emergency medical treatment, according to police.

Kenya was rushed to North Broward Medical Center. Her daughter was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Both were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospitals, police said.

“In the days, months, and years ahead, Kameron’s focus will be on helping his daughter grow, heal, and continue to experience the love and support that have always surrounded her,” the fundraiser says.

According to the campaign, donations will go toward the expenses Kameron will face while raising Kensli, including childcare, clothing, food, education, and other everyday needs.

The campaign says the financial support is also intended to give Kameron time to grieve “and navigate this heartbreaking new reality without having to carry every financial burden alone.”

“No contribution is too small, and we understand that not everyone is in a position to give,” the fundraiser states. “Sharing this fundraiser, keeping Kameron and Kensli in your thoughts and prayers, and surrounding this family with love are equally appreciated.”

“Every donation is an investment in Kensli’s care, stability, and future,” the campaign says.
