Friends are raising money for the families of three people killed in a vehicle crash in Margate.
One of the GoFundMe campaigns aims to help Jordy Wilches, whose mother, Diana Nino, 47, and brother, Brayan Wilches, 24, died from injuries they suffered late Tuesday when Wilches’ Honda collided with a white BMW – which then smashed into a Toyota Camry – at Rock Island Road and Royal Palm Boulevard.
Nancy Sanchez, a 27-year-old woman riding in the Accord’s front passenger seat, also died of her injuries, according to the Margate Police Department.
Sanchez was Brayan Wilches’ girlfriend, according to Spanish language media reports.
The charity campaign to help the Wilches aims to raise $9,000. A little over $1,000 in donations had been made on Thursday afternoon.
The money will go toward helping Jordy Wilches “as well as the rest of his family as they navigate the difficult road ahead,” the fundraiser page states.
“All contributions will go toward providing the family with the support they need to lay their loved ones to rest and begin the process of healing,” wrote the charity campaign’s organizer, Jessica Wentworth, of Pompano Beach. “Let’s show the strength and compassion of our community by standing together and offering what we can to help the Wilches family in their time of need.”
Sanchez’s family is also raising money on GoFundMe to help send her remains to her native Nicaragua, where her parents live.
“I am raising funds to be able to repatriate her body to Nicaragua so that her parents have that blessing of being able to see their beloved daughter for the last time,” her uncle, Oscar Sanchez, wrote on the campaign’s page.
The campaign for Sanchez seeks to raise $25,000. Nearly $700 in donations had been made as of Thursday afternoon.
Margate Police are investigating the cause of the fatal crash, which also left two people injured.
The driver of the BMW involved in the crash, Jeremiah Anderson, 36, of Lauderhill, was rushed to Broward Health North with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A passenger in the BMW was also taken to Broward Health North with serious injuries.
The driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene by Margate Fire Rescue, police said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Margate police Traffic Homicide Investigator Drew Germann at 954-972-7111.
