Monarch High School football had their first commitment of the new year with Shomari Lawrence.
He is set to attend Fayetteville State University in North Carolina and says it feels incredible after the journey he has been through.
“Finding my sweet spot in the game is a wonderful feeling, and most importantly, my mother,” Lawrence said. “She’s been there through it all with me; she is a star to me.”
Lawrence began playing football when he was seven and competed for the Dania Bears. He spent one year as a senior on the varsity football team at Monarch and helped them win their third straight District Title. In eight games, he finished with 26 tackles, including a pair of sacks, after switching from the offensive line to the defensive line. For college, Lawrence wavily established a strong with coach Calvin Randall.
“I love him, and he has a wonderful personality,” Lawrence added. He will always keep you laughing and ensuring you’re on top of your game. He seems like someone I can really stay close to.”
With a couple of months before college, Lawrence is eager to improve his game. He wants to become more effective in the pass rush, working with his hands, and also develop a secondary pass rush move. Fayetteville State University is coming off a season where they went 4-5, defeating UNC Pembroke, Elizabeth City State, Bowie State, and John C Smith.
