Two masked men tried to rob a Coconut Creek gas station at gunpoint Monday before the store clerk called 911, sending them fleeing, police said.
The unidentified, would-be robbers walked into the Mobil in the 6600 block of State Road 7 around 5 a.m. wearing masks and gloves, said Coconut Creek Police Public Information Officer Scotty Leamon.
One of the assailants, donning a white mask and black hat, showed the store clerk a handgun, police said. He then demanded money.
The clerk, standing behind a bulletproof partition, decided to call 911 instead, Leamon said.
Both attempted robbers took off running and were still at large Monday night, police said.
No one was hurt in the holdup.
Anyone with information is asked to call Coconut Creek Police at 954-973-6700.
