A Margate man was arrested on murder and attempted murder charges after investigators say he shot one man dead and wounded another outside a Pompano Beach home Friday night, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives said Rau Lee Davis Jr., 50, was gambling with Robert Vaughn, 46, of Fort Lauderdale, and another adult man in the front yard of a home at 1530 Northwest Seventh Ave. when an argument broke out around 11:53 p.m.
Davis allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired several rounds, striking Vaughn and the other man, according to BSO.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Vaughn dead at the scene, authorities said. The other man received medical treatment for his injuries. BSO withheld his name, citing Marsy’s Law.
Davis left the scene after the shooting but eventually returned, according to BSO. Detectives said they arrested him on one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.
Davis is being held pending a bond hearing.
BSO’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit detectives are investigating the shooting.
