Jesse Thomas Jones {BSO}
A terrifying scene of domestic violence played out in Margate as a woman fled her home while her armed boyfriend chased her through the street, reportedly threatening to shoot her to death.
According to Margate Police Department records, the April 26 incident began when a man, identified as Jesse Thomas Jones, 39, of Margate, became enraged during an argument with his girlfriend at their shared residence located near the 600 block of Royal Palm Boulevard.
Records show the victim told law enforcement that as the confrontation escalated, Jones pulled out a black handgun and sat beside the victim on the couch, placing the weapon on his lap.
In a chilling moment described in the arrest report, Jones turned to the woman and told her to “Call your son and tell him goodbye. This is the last time you will speak to him,” before adding, “This is the end of the road for you.”
Terrified, the victim told officers she had asked Jones if he truly intended to shoot her over the argument. Jones allegedly replied, “Yes,” and racked the slide of the handgun, pointing it directly at her.
Fearing for her life, the woman made a desperate attempt to escape, but was grabbed and thrown to the ground by Jones. She eventually managed to flee the apartment barefoot and in a panic, running to nearby homes and banging on doors for help.
Arrest records show Jones followed closely behind her, still armed, and reportedly tried to drag her back by her shirt as she screamed for help on the porch of a neighbor’s home.
A resident at one of the homes intervened, confronting Jones and forcing him to retreat. He then barricaded himself inside the couple’s apartment as the police response arrived.
Officers surrounded the residence and attempted for several minutes to get Jones to surrender peacefully. Records show that after a standoff, officers received a warrant for Jones’ arrest, and he was eventually taken into custody on April 27.
Jones was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery. He was booked into the Broward County Main Jail and later released after posting a $12,500 bond.
