Broward County Animal Care has issued an urgent plea to the community, declaring a “911 for pets” as shelter kennels reach capacity and more animals arrive daily.
To combat the overcrowding, the agency is waiving adoption fees and urging residents to adopt, foster, or help spread the word.
“We are in a space crisis,” said Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care. “Our shelter is filled with amazing pets—dogs and cats of all ages and personalities—just waiting for a second chance. We’re asking our community to open their hearts and homes to help us create the space we desperately need.”
All animals available for adoption are vaccinated, sterilized, and microchipped. A full list of adoptable pets can be found at PetAdoptions.Broward.org.
Even those unable to adopt or foster can make a difference. “The power of our community is real,” Brightwell said. “Simply sharing our posts or telling a friend could save a life.”
Ways the public can help include:
- Adopting a pet and giving them a permanent, loving home.
- Fostering temporarily—even a few days helps reduce overcrowding.
- Sharing the message across social media and among personal networks.
