Margate fire stations will be getting some security upgrades.
During the May 21 meeting, the commission approved a resolution to award fire station improvements to Llorens Contracting at $108,472 plus a 10 percent contingency to cover unanticipated expenses.
In a statement from Fire Chief Roberto Lorenzo to City Manager Cale Curtis, the city’s ongoing commitment to safety and security includes upgrading security features for Fire Administration, Fire Station 58, and Fire Station 98.
These include installing camera systems for 24/7 real-time monitoring and security card readers to ensure controlled access to sensitive areas. According to Lorenzo, these enhancements provide an added layer of protection for personnel, equipment, and facilities, reinforcing a secure and resilient working environment.
Extensive work will be done on Station 18, built in 1987. The station’s building is 4,800 square feet and has two bays to house fire equipment. Upgrades are needed for kitchen equipment and structural hardening. According to Lorenzo, adding an impact-resistant door will enhance the station’s protection against high winds and debris, ensuring operational continuity and safeguarding assets.
