A man faces multiple felony charges after robbing a Margate clothing store and leading law enforcement on a high-speed highway pursuit that ended in a crash and foot chase.
On June 30, the Margate Police Department responded to the report of a strong-arm robbery in progress at the Rainbow clothing store located at 5449 West Atlantic Boulevard.
According to the caller, a forceful robbery occurred, items were stolen, and a female victim was punched twice in the face.
Records show an officer first arrived at the scene in an unmarked police vehicle and spotted a car that fit the suspect vehicle’s description leaving the parking lot and heading east on Atlantic Boulevard.
As the officer activated his emergency lights, the suspect, later identified as Maurice Jaden Harrison, 18, of Pompano Beach, refused to pull over, rather leading pursuing officers on a high-speed pursuit southbound on the Turnpike before turning west onto Sunrise Boulevard.
During the pursuit, officers lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Sunrise Boulevard and Sunset Strip. Minutes later, Plantation Police received a call reporting a vehicle matching the suspect’s description had crashed at 4700 West Sunrise Boulevard.
According to Plantation PD, two females, and a male were seen fleeing in a southwest direction from the crash scene, and officers deployed K9s to track down the suspects.
The arrest report shows that officers were able to utilize eyewitnesses’ video footage showing the suspects jumping over a fence into the backyard of an apartment complex to narrow down their search area.
Eventually, Harrison was discovered hiding under a makeshift equipment shed in the fenced backyard of a residence near the 4800 block of Northwest 8th Drive.
Employees and witnesses to the robbery positively identified Harrison, along with his accomplices, as the individuals that had robbed the Rainbow store minutes earlier.
Harrison was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
At the time of this writing, there were no arrest records for the two females that fled the crash scene with Harrison.
