A man is facing multiple charges after police say he intentionally crashed his pickup truck into Masters Billiards because he felt they overcharged him.
According to the Margate Police Department arrest report, officers responded around 7:35 a.m. on August 24 to Masters Billiards, located at 205 State Road 7, after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck the building.
When officers arrived, they found Sylvester Chotilal. 37, of North Lauderdale, angrily kicking at a broken glass window of the business. On the scene, witnesses told police they saw him drive his truck into the wall of the building.
While assessing the situation, officers noted in the report that Chotilal spontaneously admitted to them that he had rammed his truck into the building intentionally because he felt they had overcharged him.
Officers suspected Chotilal was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash due to his slurred speech, watery and bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcohol. When questioned, he admitted he had been drinking “maybe” just before calling the police, and said he had consumed “juice” that may have contained alcohol.
The police administered a breath test after reading him the implied consent warning. Records show Chotilal’s blood alcohol content measured 0.152 and 0.145, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08.
Chotilal was arrested and transported to the Broward County Jail. He was later released after posting a $11,000 bond.
