A Margate business is getting a boost from local “sneakerheads” thanks to a city publicity campaign highlighting the shop.
Sneaker Connects, serving sneaker enthusiasts at 6213 Margate Blvd. in the ACE Hardware Plaza, has seen some new visitors to the store since the #OurMargate social media campaign posted a sleekly produced video on May 30.
The video had already racked up 3,400 plays on Facebook as of Tuesday morning.
“People experience something here they don’t experience anywhere else,” said owner Andrew Sonco, 26, of Margate, who opened his shop in 2020.
Sonco said he got hooked on the sneaker hobby in 2012 and pursued his passion for bringing sneaker culture to a wider audience.
“I’ve been here my whole life; I just wanted to do something big in Margate,” Sonco said.
Sonco’s shop caters to veteran sneakerheads, newcomers to the hobby, and every kind of sneaker-buyer in between. Air Jordan sneakers, Nike SBs, and Nike’s Travis Scott models are some of Sonco’s best-selling kicks.
The shop also sells Pokémon cards and memorabilia, streetwear clothing from Bape, Supreme, Vlone, Anti Social Social Club, and vintage clothes.
“A lot of the stuff that comes in through the store is very unique and different,” Sonco said. “People always come in and reach out to find exclusive stuff.”
Sneaker Connect’s walls are adorned with art by Miami street artist Coinslot, creating a unique vibe for shoppers as they browse Sonco’s inventory.

The business also offers a host of sneaker-related services, including deep cleans, sole swaps, “ice ups,” and repaints.
“We’re here for everybody in the culture,” Sonco said, adding that his shop sells shoes at both lower and higher price points. “We’re different than a lot of stores. It’s a community.”
