It was an absolute thriller between Monarch and Coral Springs High School baseball teams Monday night.
Despite the Colts getting off to a strong start, the Knights came from behind to pick up an 8-5 win to move to the District Semifinals. Monarch picked up their tenth win while the Colts finished year one under Coach John Brown with eight wins.
The Knights received tremendous pitching from sophomore Adriel Gonzalez. He struck out six in four innings to pick up the win. Gio Mastrorosa recorded three RBIs while Monarch stole ten bases in the game, with Lyonel Barthelem swiping four. Brayden Slade also recorded an RBI single.
Head Coach Mike Ramaglia credits his team for not getting rattled after falling behind early.
“We remained confident that we would score some runs, and Adriel shut the door to pull out the win,” said Coach Ramaglia. “Now we have a tough task against Taravella with our big guy on the mound tomorrow in Nick Nin.”
The Knights will play against J.P. Taravella on Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. The Trojans come into the postseason as the two-seed with a record of 19-4-1. JPT won the HSBN First Pitch Elite Tournament and defeated Monarch 11-0 in their only meeting this season.
