The Margate Commission recognized Erin Pope during the March 19 meeting for 25 years of service as a community service aide.
According to the presentation, Pope has been the longest-serving community service aide in the city’s history. She recently became an evidence technician and plans to stay in the Margate police department for at least five more years. Pope, a non-sworn officer, has worked alongside sworn officers.
“I have been involved in many traffic situations. When I deal with an accident, I have to remember that for the people involved, this is one of the worst days of their lives,” said Pope.
Pope said she is concerned that there is less respect for law enforcement than when she began her career. “I have enjoyed my job and like interacting with our new chief. He wants our input,” she said.
Pope has a son, Miles, who is 17, and a daughter, Ella, who is 15. They both attend J.P. Taravella High School.
