A Margate man was arrested after police say he assaulted his mother during a domestic dispute involving an ice cream treat.
According to a Margate Police Department arrest report, Darryl Glen Hastey, 62, was taken into custody on April 13 following a reported domestic incident at a residence located near the 5500 block of North Lakewood Circle.
Police say an argument turned physical when Hastey allegedly grabbed the victim, identified as his mother, by the arm, shook her, and forced her into a bedroom.
But what makes the case especially unusual is what investigators say happened next.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Hastey stood over the victim, poked her in the face with a fudge pop, and then smeared the chocolate dessert across her face. Officers noted that they observed chocolate on the victim’s face, along with bruising on her arm that was consistent with her account.
Authorities further discovered that Hastey was not supposed to be at the residence at all. According to the report, he had previously been served with a domestic violence protection order that prohibited him from returning to the home.Â
Hastey was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
